keep on going

still catching up on the 1 face a day postings...

the rest of March:

i bought these sunglasses while in europe.
i'm so giddy about them, had been looking for round sunglasses for a long time...
A la Iris Apfel!

and that was March!

gearing up

remember last year i painted Stan at
Dee Donaldson's Portrait Boot Camp...

well Donna and i are getting ready for the next one
with Dee towards the end of this month.
excited and nervous of course...

last week we went on a little photographic tour
to find some willing "faces".

here are the ones i'll probably be choosing from:

i was looking for someone with a beanie and this guy is just perfect.
but then this little pineapple lady is so cute,
she has such a spark in her eye...

tough choice, i'll keep you posted!

while traveling

you saw the "traveling crew" as a whole
the other day, here they are individually.

this is what i had in my tool box while traveling:
3B pencils, eraser, Stabilo Markall pencils black, Stabilo Woodies red, white and blue
a "waterbrush", a small watercolor set (i never used it),
precut watercolor paper to work on.

i confess that while traveling i sometimes
did two or three of them in one sitting, depending on what
we were doing at that point.

when at home mostly i paint them on the day.
now and then though, i give myself permission to do one ahead
especially when i know life will be busy and also because i can ;)

blog back log...

i just realized i'm way behind
on sharing my #1faceaday here on the blog.

i know some of you see them daily on Instagram
but i still love sharing them here.
so here we go:

the first few in March before i went traveling

Obsession

since i came back i've been exploring the "Art Entwinded" online course.

i'm sad i couldn't do it "live" but it's so rich,
it will take me months to get through it all...
and i want to savor it and soak in all the information.

i've only done a few assignments but when browsing through week 5
(that's what i do... hop around like a mad thing)
i was stopped in my tracks when
Misty introduced us to Ecuadorian Master painter

the HANDS!!! the hands that he painted!!!
i was blown away, in love!
i mean look at the emotions he evokes with the hands:

"Tears of Blood: Homage to Salvador Allende, Victor Jara and Pablo Neruda", Oswaldo Guayasamín

i had to try it,
make my "own" little Guayasamin version:

and that got Jeanne-Marie in love too ;)
have a look at her version here, it is STUNNING!
we messaged excitedly back and forth and couldn't believe what
we had just stumbled upon.

Her and Camilla have been exploring hands for a while
and now between the two Masters, Schiele and Guayasamin
it seems we have got plenty to work with...

like Jeanne Marie says, "our lives will never be the same again after this discovery"!

this is another version i tried and then cropped:

now this may be a little over ambitious but i changed my plans
for this huge canvas i'm busy painting for our house
(120 by 140cm)

and introduced hands of course!

i'll keep you posted...

oil on canvas.
photographed with a plant so you get a sense of the size.

Finishing touches

on Easter weekend our little town gets
flooded with holiday makers.
a good time to hide away in the studio and finish up some paintings.

this perplexed guy is done:

acrylic and collage on wood panel

 of course i carried on with my 365 faces;
with my  "not so patient" little assistant...
this is the "come enough now!!! let's go for a walk" look

 this lady is also finished...
i think!? i'll live with her for a bit and decide:

collage background and oil on wood panel

my favorite way to work at the moment,
collaged background and oils on top,
thinner in some places so the background still shows through.

Seasons

i drooled over the flower market in Austria.
spring flowers are my favorite,
so fresh, so colorful and full of hope, i could have bought them all!

european spring, my favorite season!

now i'm back in autumn, and it's beautiful too...
and my brain is slightly confused.

 Happy Easter, Joyeuses Pâques
beautiful people!
